Which unloading method applies depends on volume, berth access and how much time the port call allows. All four use the same dedicated transfer discipline. Only the scale changes.

For vessels alongside at Mundra, Kandla, Pipavav, Dahej or Hazira, road tanker unloading at the berth is the fastest route, because the plant is in Jamnagar, minutes from Gujarat's anchorages. Vessels at anchorage or on the South and East coasts are served by bunker barge supply or containerised ISO tank, coordinated through the local agent. HOSE, COUPLING &
FLOW RATE

AUS 40 is a low-viscosity aqueous solution, so pumping is undemanding. The constraints are material compatibility and cleanliness, not head or horsepower.

Wetted materials: the one rule that matters

Every metal the fluid dissolves ends up on the SCR catalyst. Pump housings, hose linings, coupling bodies and seals must be:

  • Compatible: stainless steel 304/304L and 316/316L, HDPE, polypropylene, PVDF, EPDM and fluoro-elastomer seals.
  • Never used: copper, brass, bronze, unlined mild or carbon steel, aluminium, zinc and galvanised fittings.
  • Never shared: the pump kit, hose and funnels must be dedicated to AUS 40 and must not have carried fuel oil, lube oil, hydraulic fluid or seawater. See our storage and handling guide for the full contamination picture.

Practical note: a centrifugal or diaphragm pump in stainless or PP is standard for AUS 40. Avoid running the pump dry, and avoid aggressive throttling on discharge, because the fluid is near its solubility limit and localised heating serves no purpose.

DISCHARGE, STEP
BY STEP

  1. Confirm documents before connecting. Match the delivery note batch number to the Certificate of Analysis; confirm volume, concentration and packaging format.
  2. Inspect the transfer equipment. Hose lining, couplings and seals clean and undamaged; equipment dedicated to urea service; drip tray positioned under the connection.
  3. Connect to the deck fill point. Run the discharge hose from the tanker or barge manifold to the vessel's deck fill point or SCR dosing tank filling line and lock the coupling.
  4. Start slow, then open up. Begin pumping at reduced rate to prove the line is tight and the receiving tank is taking fluid, then move to the working flow rate.
  5. Monitor level and meter. Track the tank gauge and flow meter throughout; stop before the high-level alarm and allow the line to drain back before breaking the connection.
  6. Flush, cap and log. Flush the hose with demineralised water if it will sit idle, cap every coupling, and record batch number, volume and CoA reference in the bunker log.

Never top up the receiving tank with water to make volume, and never return drained fluid to the delivery container. Diluting below 40% under-doses the catalyst exactly as substituting AdBlue would. BOOKING THE
TRANSFER SLOT

Unloading is quick; scheduling is what determines whether it happens inside your window. To lock a slot we need six things:

  • Vessel name and IMO number
  • Port, berth or anchorage position
  • ETA and ETD window
  • Volume required and packaging format (bulk, ISO tank, IBC or drums)
  • Deck fill point / coupling type on the vessel
  • Local agent contact

Gujarat ports (Mundra, Kandla/Deendayal, Pipavav, Dahej, Hazira): 48 to 72 hours. South and East coast (Cochin, Tuticorin, Chennai, Visakhapatnam, Haldia) and barge transfer: 5 to 7 days. Every consignment ships with an ISO 18611 & IS 17661 Certificate of Analysis and MSDS for port authority inspection.
