AUS40 supply at Chennai
Chennai is a container and roll-on/roll-off port inside the city, with the security and gate discipline that an urban port implies. Kamarajar Port at Ennore, a separate port with its own management, gates and access procedures, lies roughly 25 km to the north.
State whether the call is at Chennai, Ennore/Kamarajar or another nearby facility. These locations must be assessed separately; one port’s access conditions do not confirm another’s.
What decides feasibility at Chennai
The single most common cause of a wasted delivery plan on this coast is treating Chennai and Ennore as one location. They are different ports under different authorities with different access procedures, and a plan built for one does not transfer to the other. Chennai’s own city-centre location also means gate and vehicle rules are enforced tightly.
Confirm these before the enquiry:
- Chennai or Kamarajar (Ennore): state which, explicitly.
- The berth and the terminal operator.
- Gate pass lead time for a road vehicle.
- Any restriction on vehicle movement in the port area during the call.
Berth-side or barge delivery
PROTICKS provides barge delivery where berth or jetty-side supply is not accessible, subject to a suitable craft, port and terminal permission, vessel acceptance and weather.
Confirm that the call is at Chennai, not Ennore / Kamarajar or Kattupalli. Assess the assigned berth for vehicle access and transfer space. A barge alternative must be approved for that Chennai call, including any oil-berth restrictions.
For this call: Port and berth identity; working cargo and receiving-side access; approved supply craft and pump equipment where required.
Neither an electric pump nor a fuel-engine pump is automatically permitted in a sensitive area. Confirm the terminal-approved equipment before dispatch. Barge delivery does not bypass cargo-operation or safety restrictions.
Planning the notice period
Send the berth and the agent with the enquiry, and name the port exactly. Notice arranged against the wrong port has to start again.
See how an order runs from enquiry to delivery.
Send the vessel requirement
- Vessel name and IMO number if available.
- Port, terminal, berth or anchorage position.
- ETA, ETB and ETD with date and time zone.
- Quantity, preferred format and usable receiving capacity.
- Local agent, company contact, documentation requirements, and whether you want PROTICKS to carry out the transfer.
Packaging & transfer
Choose 210 L drums, 1,000 L IBCs or an agreed bulk / ISO tank arrangement. Packaging does not determine the delivery route: road, barge or boat access must be assessed separately. Ask for pump kit, hoses, couplings, calibrated flow meter and personnel if needed, subject to terminal and vessel acceptance.
Product & paperwork
PROTICKS AUS40 is ISO 18611 certified and meets the requirements of IS 17661 (Part 1):2022. Check whether the vessel is specified for AUS40 or AUS32, then check the batch Certificate of Analysis and current MSDS before approving supply. Product-document checklist.
Chennai: common questions
Is Ennore the same port as Chennai?
No. Kamarajar Port at Ennore is a separate port under a separate port with its own gates and procedures, about 25 km from Chennai Port. Access conditions, gate procedures and contacts are different. Confirming which one the vessel is calling at is the first thing an enquiry needs to settle.
Why does Chennai need gate pass lead time?
It is a port inside a city, so vehicle entry is controlled more tightly than at an industrial port outside an urban area. Passes take time to arrange and cannot usually be obtained on the day.
The vessel is at Chennai anchorage. Does that change things?
Yes. An anchorage delivery needs a craft and its own permissions, and is assessed separately from an alongside delivery. Send the anchorage position and the expected duration.
