AUS40 supply at Vizhinjam

Vizhinjam is a deepwater transhipment terminal on the Kerala coast near Thiruvananthapuram. It is built for large container vessels and its traffic is dominated by transhipment and mainline calls rather than local cargo.

Send the confirmed berthing window with the enquiry. Transhipment calls can be short, so the delivery window is usually the binding constraint here.

What decides feasibility at Vizhinjam

Transhipment calls are optimised for speed. The port stay can be short and the berthing window can move, so the delivery window rather than the quantity is usually the binding constraint. A requirement raised after arrival will often be too late; the same requirement raised when the call is fixed is straightforward.

Confirm these before the enquiry:

  • The confirmed berthing window, and how firm it is.
  • The expected port stay, so the delivery can be planned inside it.
  • The terminal contact and the agent handling the call.
  • Whether stores may be taken while container operations are in progress.

Berth-side or barge delivery

PROTICKS provides barge delivery where berth or jetty-side supply is not accessible, subject to a suitable craft, port and terminal permission, vessel acceptance and weather.

Use the actual Vizhinjam terminal and call window, not a nearby port’s arrangements. Check whether the vessel can receive a landside delivery during container operations. A proposed barge delivery needs confirmation from the terminal and vessel.

For this call: Available receiving side; container-work and lifting conflicts; permitted supply-craft window and weather conditions.

Neither an electric pump nor a fuel-engine pump is automatically permitted in a sensitive area. Confirm the terminal-approved equipment before dispatch. Barge delivery does not bypass cargo-operation or safety restrictions.

Planning the notice period

Raise the enquiry when the call is fixed. The berthing window can move and the stay can be short, so the plan needs room ahead of it.

Send the vessel requirement

  • Vessel name and IMO number if available.
  • Port, terminal, berth or anchorage position.
  • ETA, ETB and ETD with date and time zone.
  • Quantity, preferred format and usable receiving capacity.
  • Local agent, company contact, documentation requirements, and whether you want PROTICKS to carry out the transfer.

Packaging & transfer

Choose 210 L drums, 1,000 L IBCs or an agreed bulk / ISO tank arrangement. Packaging does not determine the delivery route: road, barge or boat access must be assessed separately. Ask for pump kit, hoses, couplings, calibrated flow meter and personnel if needed, subject to terminal and vessel acceptance.

Review delivery and transfer planning.

Product & paperwork

PROTICKS AUS40 is ISO 18611 certified and meets the requirements of IS 17661 (Part 1):2022. Check whether the vessel is specified for AUS40 or AUS32, then check the batch Certificate of Analysis and current MSDS before approving supply. Product-document checklist.

Vizhinjam: common questions

Why is timing the main issue at Vizhinjam?

Because a transhipment call is built around a fast turnaround. The vessel may be alongside for a short period, so the delivery has to be planned into the window in advance rather than arranged once the vessel is there.

The berthing window has moved. What should we do?

Tell the supply team as soon as it moves. A revised window can usually be worked with if it is known in advance; the difficulty is a change that only becomes apparent on the day.

Can a delivery be made during container operations?

That is a terminal decision rather than a port one. Ask the agent to confirm it for the specific call, because it determines whether the delivery has to wait for a gap in cargo work.
