AUS40 in plain language
AUS40 means aqueous urea solution with a nominal urea concentration of 40% by mass, manufactured to ISO 18611. It is a reagent for marine selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems designed to use this concentration. It is not fuel and is stored in a separate system.
What it does in an SCR system
The system doses urea solution into the exhaust. Under the appropriate operating conditions, ammonia derived from the urea reacts with nitrogen oxides (NOx) over a catalyst to form nitrogen and water. Performance depends on the complete engine/SCR installation and its operation, not the fluid alone.
What a buyer needs to confirm
- The OEM-specified reagent and concentration.
- The required quality standard and batch documentation.
- Expected consumption, onboard stock and storage conditions.
- Delivery quantity, format, port and receiving arrangements.

Common questions
What is AUS40?
AUS40 is an aqueous urea solution with a nominal urea concentration of 40% by mass, used as the NOx reduction agent in marine SCR systems specified for it. It is defined by ISO 18611. It is not a fuel or a fuel additive, and is stored and dosed through its own separate system.
Is AUS40 the same as AdBlue?
No. AdBlue is a trade name for AUS32, a 32.5% solution built to ISO 22241 for road vehicles. AUS40 is 40% and built to ISO 18611 for marine use. They are different concentrations to different standards and are not interchangeable without OEM approval.
What does AUS40 do on a ship?
It is dosed into the exhaust stream, where ammonia derived from the urea reacts with nitrogen oxides over a catalyst to form nitrogen and water. How well that works depends on the whole engine and SCR installation and its operating conditions, not on the fluid alone.
Who needs AUS40?
Vessels with SCR systems specified for a 40% aqueous urea solution, typically vessels meeting IMO Tier III NOx requirements through selective catalytic reduction. Confirm the concentration from the engine or SCR manufacturer documentation. Vessel type does not tell you.
Is PROTICKS AUS40 certified?
Yes. PROTICKS holds ISO 18611 certification for AUS40, and the product meets the requirements of IS 17661 (Part 1):2022. Every batch is supplied with its Certificate of Analysis.
