The four documents that matter
Marine urea is bought on paperwork as much as on product. These are the documents behind a PROTICKS AUS40 supply, what each one proves, and what it does not.
| Document | What it evidences | When you get it |
|---|---|---|
| ISO 18611 certification | That the product is certified against the international standard for marine AUS40. | Copy on request |
| Certificate of Analysis | The measured results for the specific batch you are receiving. | With every delivery |
| Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) | Hazard identification, handling, storage, spill response and first aid. | Downloadable below |
| Product data sheet | The product specification, storage conditions and shelf life. | With the quotation |
ISO 18611 certification
PROTICKS holds ISO 18611 certification for AUS40. ISO 18611 is the international standard for the marine NOx reduction agent AUS40: Part 1 sets the quality requirements and Part 3 covers handling, transportation and storage.
What it covers: the product, against the requirements of the standard. What it does not cover: your vessel. A certified reagent does not certify an engine, an SCR installation or a vessel’s NOx compliance; that depends on the approved installation and how it is operated. A product certificate does not certify a vessel, and we do not present it as one.
A copy of the current certificate can be issued with a quotation. Request it with your enquiry.
IS 17661: the Indian Standard position
PROTICKS AUS40 meets the requirements of IS 17661 (Part 1):2022, the Indian Standard for AUS40. That standard is aligned with ISO 18611.
We state conformance to IS 17661, not certification against it, because those are different claims and only one of them is ours to make. Ask any supplier which of the two they mean, and for the issuing body and number behind anything called a certificate. Read the full IS 17661 position.
The batch Certificate of Analysis
The CoA is the document that actually evidences what is being delivered to your vessel. Certification tells you the product line is certified; the CoA tells you what is in this batch. Check it before approving supply, and keep it with the vessel’s records afterwards.
- The batch number matches the delivery note and the packaging.
- Product identification, test date and the laboratory or issuer.
- Measured urea concentration, reported against its acceptance range.
- The impurity parameters, with limits and results in consistent units.
- A clear conformance statement. Query anything missing or ambiguous before you accept it.
Safety Data Sheet
The current MSDS covers hazard identification, protective equipment, handling and storage, spill response and first aid. The vessel’s own approved procedures take precedence for onboard work.
What to request with a quotation
Ask for all four in one go and you will not be chasing paperwork later:
- The ISO 18611 certificate copy.
- The current product data sheet, with shelf life and storage conditions.
- The current MSDS.
- Confirmation that the batch CoA will be issued with the delivery.
If your purchase specification names IS 17661, an OEM approval or any additional parameter, include that in the enquiry so it is confirmed in advance instead of at delivery.
Common questions
Is PROTICKS AUS40 ISO 18611 certified?
Yes. PROTICKS holds ISO 18611 certification for AUS40, and a copy of the current certificate can be issued with a quotation.
Does an ISO 18611 certificate make my vessel MARPOL compliant?
No. It certifies the product against the standard. Your vessel’s NOx compliance depends on its approved engine and SCR installation and how it is operated. Correct reagent is necessary but not sufficient.
Can I see a Certificate of Analysis before ordering?
The CoA is batch-specific, so the one that matters is the one for the batch you receive, and it is issued with the delivery. A sample CoA showing the parameters reported can be provided with a quotation so you know what to expect.
Why is there no IS 17661 certificate to show?
Because no BIS certification scheme is in force for AUS40. The product can meet the standard’s requirements, which PROTICKS AUS40 does, but there is no certificate to hold.
What documents should stay with the vessel?
The batch Certificate of Analysis, the current MSDS and the delivery record showing batch and quantity received. Together those evidence what was supplied and when.
